Kathmandu durbar is the historic palace of Kathmandu. The Kathmandu city is also known as a Kantipur. There are many temples and historic monuments. one of the oldest temples in this area is Taleju temple which was a built in 14/15 century of Nepal. It has a big area in the middle of the center, where you can see the arts and history of Nepal. Durbar square has a long history yet it is so unique and precious destination. The Kathmandu Durbar Square held the palaces of the different kings who ruled over the city. It is listed in UNESCO World heritage sites
Durbar Square is full of fine architecture of the Newar artists and craftsmen over several centuries. The Royal Palace was originally at Dattaraya square and was later moved to the Durbar square.
It is known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. Hanuman name derived from a statue of Hanuman. Monkey Hanuman is a devotee of Lord Ram. at the entrance of the palace.
History of Kathmandu Durbar square
The durbar square started to build at the incent lichivi period of Nepal. Many kings who ruled at Kathmandu valley did contribution to make it even better. After Kantipur became independent 15-century state from Bhaktapur it was a royal palace for kings. Ratna Malla was a first king who lived here. In 1768 A.D Prithivi Narayan Saha became the king of Kantipur. Prithivi Narayan Saha also built some parts of Kathmandu Durbar square. Later other saha kings also did some renovation and construction.
Kasthamandap temple of Kathmandu durbar square
Kasthamandap temple a temple made from single timber. City name Kathmandu is from Kasthamandap temple which is on the Kathmandu Durbar square. In Sanskrit language, Kastha means “wood” and mandap means “covered shelter”. The temple is made from the single tree without using any iron nails.
Kumari temple
Kumari temple is in the center of Kathmandu durbar square. The sakya family chose the living goddess before a girl get’s mensuration. they bring her there and worship her as a god. All Hindu people believe her as a goddess. There is a small temple, where she stays. there would be a replacement for her. It takes every 3-4 years. Every day at 4 PM visitors can see her.
Taleju temple
This is one of the oldest temples. Mahendra Malla built in 16 Century. It has an amazing wood architecture. The temple is quite big and impressive. Taleju temples are only open for people of Hindu and Buddhist faiths. All Hindu people believe taleju is the greatest goddess. There is a small temple around taleju temple.
Kathmandu durbar square is a part of another tour
Kathmandu durbar square is a popular tourist spot. People often do it with other tour or trekking. it is just 4-5 hours sightseeing. there is nine-story palace museum and so on. you can do it any time of the year. there is no special time to visit it. If you are doing any Nepal trip include it. this is worth to visit.
