Langtang valley is one of the best trekking trails of Nepal. Which offers a Super view of Langtang Lirung(7,246m), Ganjala Peak, Dorje Lhakpa and many snow-capped mountains. This trekking also offers the verities of Landscape, Natural diversity, Flora, and Faunas. From the starting point Syabrubensi to the Ending point of the trek Kyanjin gompa you would see different of Landscape. if you still have more time then you can do Gosainkunda trek as well.

Getting langtang valley trek

There are various option to go on this. This trek starts from the Dhunche or Sybrubensi. It is 122 km north from Kathmandu which takes about 7 to 8 hours by local bus.

1. Travel by local bus

Trekkers should travel Syabrubensi or Dhunche before start of trek. The road are being widened so there are so much dust on the way. the construction process is going on so sometimes you have traffic jam too. The local bus leaves early in the morning from kathmandu. We recommend trekkers to go early because if sometimes the bus get’s some problem you will have many options in this case. The bus goes via Nuwakot. it is 7-8 hours journey by bus. You need to adjust the locality in the bus because they often stops for the local passenger.

2. Travel by private transport jeep

If you are willing to go by private jeep it is also possible. This option is totally flexible to you, you can stop and travel. the cost are also not expensive. your trekking crew also travel with you. This might takes little bit less than local bus. You can stop for the photographs often. This options is better for the trekkers who want’s to have a really nice experience in Nepal rather than being stuck in Local bus

Langtang valley trek natural experience

Langtang valley trek is unique and awesome for a natural experience. It has a very diversified environment from trekking starting point Syabrubensi. More than 1,000 plant species are found in Langtang National Park, amongst which 21 species are addition, there also 46 mammal species have been recorded in Langtang National Park. The Assamese monkey, grey wolf, red panda(One of the rear mammals of Nepal who eats Bamboo), clouded leopard, leopard cat, snow leopard, musk deer and Tibetan sheep are included in the protected list of the National Park and Wildlife Conservation Act 1973.

Langtang valley trek People and Culture

There are mixes of ethnic groups of inhabitants like Brahmins, Newars, Chettri, Tamang, Sherpa and many others ethnic group in this region. We would only see Tamang, Sherpa people while on the trek because, in this trail, other inhabitants are very rear. Local people in this region are Buddhist. They celebrate Lhosar and Buddha Jayanti.

The Itinerary for this trip is made for 8 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. I can make it longer and shorter with your time by linking with another trek of Langtang as well as some more days going through another way and go Back from Dhunche. Food, drink, and accommodation in Langtang valley trek

You are able to get all types of a western food item on this trekking trail. All tea house has its own menu cart which is settled by their village tourism management committee so there is no variation in food and its cost. You can purchase chocolate, dry foods, and snacks in trekking if you like. You would get mineral water on this trail but I would recommend you to bring your water purification medicine and if it is possible small hand filter as well. For the accommodation in this route, you can get a basic accommodation. you have to share bathroom and toilet.

Threat and Risk at Langtang valley trek

It is recommended not to do a solo trek, especially for a female. The trekking trail goes via forest you can’t see the village until 4/5 hours. there are not clear mark as well so you may even lose on the trail.

Langtang Permits

To trek to Langtang valley, you need following two permits and their cost which are mentioned below.
The first one is Langtang Nationl Park permits. (See here for permits fees). It is because you are trekking inside the Langtang National Park permit that is why this essential permit. The check post are in Dhunche.
Where to take this card

You will get it in the Dhunche. You just need to write your name over there and you will get the permits
For SAARC nationals: Nrs.200 (about US $2) For Others Nationalities: Nrs.3000 (about US $29)

Second is Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card that costs NRS. 2000 (about US $20). The card is issued through Trekking Agency Association of Nepal for the protection and safety of trekkers. TIMS you can also get through Nepal tourism board as well as Registered Trekking Agency

Earthquake update

The worst nightmare of Nepal 25 April 2015 when there was devastating 7.8 Magnitude earthquake. All Mid Nepal was affected. Ten thousand people lost their lives. Among that the langtang village is most affected area. Formally there was a village called langtang which is dumped in to the landslides that came through Langtang Lirung Mountain. It was ice fall a giant ice falls. All people who were living in langtang were killed and their livestock too.

Since then up to now all are set now. The village are back in to the serving position for the tourist. As their main income source is from tourist they need tourism vitally. They have just forgotten their relatives memory and back their normal life. The village have been shifted quite upward to mundo. You are heartily welcome to help in their live. All are set so langtang is completely safe to trek.
Your presence as a tourist in that area will help them at least a bit to change their economical conditions so all villagers are waiting you.

Trekking Gears or Trekking Equipment Required

Below are the stuff list for your successful trek. Without the gears it will be too terrible to complete trek successfully. Trekking gears that are mentioned below is your preparedness that you should look before you start your trek. Some of gears you can rent in Kathmandu too but we urged to you have it all with you if possible.

  1. Four seasons Sleeping bag -15 would be preferable ( Can even rent here in Kathmandu we will arrange your sleeping bag however it is better if you have your own)

  3. Daypack for yourself (Bring the small one where you can put your important stuff as well as drinking water)
  4. A down Jacket

Which Season is best for Langtang trek

Nepal is a whole year destination as the country has a wide range of climatic diversity. Nepal has various climate in it’s tiny territory.
The best season to visit Nepal is subjective and depends on your choice of activities in Nepal. Thus Nepal is all time zone.
There are specially four seasons in Nepal: Spring (March-May), Summer (June-August), Autumn (Late September-November), and Winter (December-February). Here is some idea of the season of Nepal.

Spring Season (March- May)

This season starts when the birds sing and the flowers blossom in the forest. In-fact Spring is the most beautiful season of Nepal when the nature opens perfectly
The green hills of Nepal get the cover shades of blossomed rhododendron of different color. In Everest region there are wide range of white rhododendron, while in Annapurna region pink and purple color of Rhododendron. There are different type of Magnolia flowers that makes a forest white and beautiful. The wild birds and animals come out to relish the blissful spring. This is the best time to view wildlife in Chitwan National Park and bardia national park.
Spring is known as the second best season for trekking in Nepal. The joyful temperature and the beautiful nature make the trekking in the hills a joyful experience.

Winter (December, January, February)

Winter season is a coolest season of Nepal. The temperatures get’s very low in all over the Nepal. The nights can be freezing cold as the temperature falls low after the sunset. Snow fall is common in the Himalayan and upper hilly region of Nepal.
This is not a good season in Nepal. However to do tour in Nepal is still fantastic, Short trekking can be still done during the winter season, the tour can be done any time of year.
During the winter season the High passes like Thorung La, Larke la, Kang la, Cho la pass will remain closed during the peak winter season. You need to check the details of the place before you plan winter treks.

Summer / Monsoon (June-August)
Monsoon is most busiest season in Nepal because the most of Nepalese people are involved in Agriculture. The country side is busy for planting rice and other crops for the whole year. In this season people also plant millet for floor in country side.People also harvest corn in this season.
It is a great oppertunity to see Nepalese farms as the farmers sing, play and work together as they plant paddy seedlings.
Visiting in the country side, as well as travelling to the mountain may be disturbing due to cloudy sky, landslides, as well as flood which is common during the period. During this time you can travel talking some good advice and well preparation.
Even this is monsoon season trekking region like Mustang, Dolpa and Simikot are still best zone for trekking during this time the reason is Rain shadow area and do not receive the monsoon rain.

Autumn ( October, November )

This is the best season for the Nepal trek and travel. During this time when most of the travelers visit Nepal to not miss the the glance of Nepal. After monsoon stoops the weather is really cool and the scenery is just awesome that everything is just above the perfect.
During this month there is stable high pressure, giving clear skies, sunshine, warm days and cool nights. The clear skies are great for viewing the beauty of the magnificent mountains.
Thousands of tourist around the globe seek best mountain visibility and adventure trek during Autumn. As a result trekking trails like Everest Base camp, Annapurna base camp, Annapurna circuit trek and many other routes get thousand of tourist. Autumn season is also a great time to visit national park in southern Nepal where the temperature is still cooler. How difficult is Langtang valley trek

Langtang valley trek is moderate trek so it does not require super fit body but you should be able to walk around 6-7 hours in a day would be fine. This trek does not require any technical climbing, The trail is easier. In this trek, you have to go until 4773 m Kyanjin Ri from Kyanjin Gompa 3817m. There are no previous experience experience required for this trek. As you are trekking below 5000 Meter, you have to apply precaution as per advice with expert such as a guide or co trekkers

10 Days Langtang valley trek itinerary

This langtang valley trek 10 days itinerary. We can make it longer or shorter depends on your time. thus this itinerary is customizable.
  • Day 01:Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel

    Me/ or My friends welcome you at Tribhuwan International Airport, then we go to Hotel via private transfer and discuss the trekking and do preparation for trekking. Furthermore, you will be ready for trekking by managing the stuff.

  • Day 02:Drive to Syabrubensi Bazzar

    After heaving the breakfast at the hotel, we will drive or walk to catch up the local bus at Machhapokhari for Syabrubeshi. Finally, you would start trekking by driving 5-hour scenic drive through Trishuli bazzar with beautiful small villages, river valley, and mountains.

  • Day 03:Trek to Lama hotel

    Today is our first day of trekking so we walk slowly to get our rhythm of walking the trail slowly becomes ascends through the big forest and the bank of Langtang river. During the trek, we can see some small village as well as some wildlife. When we cross the Bamboo we can see be hives in the cliffs on the other side of the river. We continue to Climb up until we reach at Lamahotel.

    first of all, we would do breakfast at Lama hotel early in the morning we start to climb up through the oak, Pine and rhododendron forest. It takes about 3 hours to get Ghoda Tabela.
    Langtang village It is lunch place for the trekkers. The landscape becomes plain here and the valley becomes wider here. After lunch, we walk further 2 hours to get the Langtang village where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 05: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3817m/12,519 ft) Sightseeing day, 4 hours.

  • Day 06:Hike to Kyanjin Ri

    Today we will trek down to Syabrubeshi via Bamboo through previous rhododendron forest and along with Bhotekoshi river.

  • Day 9: Drive back to Kathmandu with same road

    After breakfast, we take the bus to go to Kathmandu which takes around 7 Hours.
