Langtang gosaikunda trek is an awesome trek route which goes to the beautiful Langtang valley and returns from there, and cross the pass Lauribina La Pass (4610m). Phedi is the place where you would stay after pass likewise Tharepati, Kutumsang, Chisapani and finally to the Kathmandu. This is very nice trekking trail which is very less crowded but beautiful from every aspect in-terms of Nature, wildlife, Landscape, people and culture and many more. This trek brings you to the place where you would see the high Himalaya as well as flora and fauna. In this trek, you can see Langtang Lirung 7,234 m (23,734 ft), Langtang Ri 7,205 m (23,638 ft), Dorje Lakpa 6,966 m (22,854 ft), Langshisha Ri 6,427 m (21,086 ft) and many other peaks which are above 6000m very closely.

Gosaikunda is a holy lake which lies at Langtang National Park, located at an altitude of 4,380 m (14,370 ft) in the Rasuwa District . from the bank of river Langtang Gosainkunda trek trail goes on. There are other lakes below and above it. All lakes have it’s own religious aspect. According to Hindu mythology Gosaikunda as the abode of the Hindu deities Shiva and Gauri. The Hindu scriptures Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana and the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata refer to Samudra Manthan from that poison produced and that poison started to destroy everything. Lord Shiva drunk that poison, afterward he got a neck burn then went to walk to the world seeking the cold place. When he arrived Gosainkunda he hit the hill with his trident and drunk the cold water and lied own to the lake. This is the place where Big river Trisuli origins from here.

Langtang Gosaikunda trek is perfect and awesome for a natural experience. It has a very diversified environment. During the trek, we walk through the forest where more than 1,000 plant species are available. 46 species of mammal have been recorded in this national park, if we are lucky we can see, Assamese monkey, grey wolf, red panda, clouded leopard, leopard cat, snow leopard, musk deer and Tibetan sheep are included in the protected list of the National Park and Wildlife Conservation Act 1973.

There are mixes of ethnic groups of inhabitants like Brahmins, Newars, Chettri, Tamang, Sherpa and many others ethnic group in this region. We would see Tamang, Sherpa people while we are on the upper area while in a lower land we can see Brhamin, Chettri and Newars and their cultures.

The Trek starts from Syabrubensi which is 122 Km from Kathmandu. To go to Syabrubensi you can hire the jeep if you want your own private journey, however, it is costly. If you are traveling in a limit budget there is still an option of a Local Bus. These Local bus leaves from Kathmandu around 6:0 Clock in the Morning to till 8:0 clock which takes around 5 Hours. the treks end at Sundarijal from where you would take either local bus, Car or Van.

How difficult is Langtang Gosaikunda trek

Langtang Valley Trek is the moderate trek. Trekkers who can walk around 6-7 hours in a day would be perfect for this trek. This trek does not require any technical climbing and ice climbing so the trail is easier. In this trek, you have to go until the elevation of 4773 m Kyanjin Ri from Kyanjin Gompa 3817m.

Food, drink, and accommodation in Langtang Gosaikunda trek

Like in other treks you are able to get all types of western food item on this trekking trail. All tea house has its own menu for the dish that they serve, which is settled by their village tourism management committee so there is no difference in food and its cost. You can purchase chocolate, dry foods, and snacks in the hotel. You would get mineral water on this trail but I would recommend you to bring your water purification medicine and if it is possible small hand filter as well. Because your small effort can change a little bit in Environment. For the accommodation in this route, you can get a basic accommodation. you have to share bathroom and toilet.

Threat and Risk at Langtang Gosaikunda trek

It is recommended not to do a solo Langtang Gosaikunda trek, especially for a female. The trekking trail goes via forest you can’t see the village until 4/5 hours. there are not clear mark as well so you may even lose on the trail.

When to do Langtang Gosaikunda trek?

Mid-September, October, and November are Autumn Season:

This is the best time to do Langtang Gosaikunda trek because in this time the field is full with crops, the forest is very green and there is no chance of rain.

March, May is the second-best season of the year to do trekking:

During this time the forest becomes very colorful because of rhododendron and magnolia flowers as well as very less chance of rain.

December, January, and February:

the sky get a lot of clouds most of the time and the weather is cold and there is a risk of hailstorm and snowfall.

May, June:

This is Nepal´s hot and pre-monsoon season and it can get very warm indeed. This is still the best time to do this trek.

June, July, August, and mid-September:

this is Monsoon season and the least popular time to do trekking in Nepal. The risk of leeches, landslides, floods and so on.

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek Itinerary

  • Arrived at Kathmandu Tribhuvan Internation Airport at 1350M. Transfer to hotel
    First of all, I and my team will receive you at the airport. you would be taken to the hotel, then finally we would talk about the trekking and do preparation of trekking.
  • Day 02: Drive to Syabrubensi Bazzar (1,460m/4788ft), 5 hrs
    We would do breakfast at the hotel, then we go to Bus Stop which is called Macchapokhari. We take the bus from there which goes through Nuwakot District where you can see local people, farming style, their culture and tradition as well. They often stop for snacks and lunch. It takes about 5 Hours to reach final Destination.
  • Day 03: Trek to Lama hotel (2560m/8396ft), 6 hours
    Heaving breakfast we would walk and cross the river then head to the Langtang valley along with Langtang river. We walk through the thick forest where we would see oak, uttis, bamboo and many other plants. the trail is accented and there are steps to climb. We have to cross the river 3-4 times to get Lama hotel.
  • Day 04: Trek to Langtang village (3455m/11332ft), 6 Hours
    As we are in lama hotel, We continue ascent from Lama Hotel and enjoy the mountain landscape with waterfalls. As we reach the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela, we begin to see the white peaks of the Langtang Himalayan range. Our trail continues to climb up the widening valley, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders. We pass a Buddhist monastery before reaching the Langtang village which was affected by the April 2015 earthquake. We continue on our trail to Mundu. Overnight in Mundu.
  • Day 05: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3817m/12519ft)4 hours
    You walk early in the morning to Kyanjin Gompa which takes 4 hours. Kyanjin Gompa is the last and final destination of this side trek. It is very easy walking today. The trail goes slowly but continuously accent an altitude of 3817m/12519ft above sea level. From here you will have beautiful views of Mt Ganchempo and many other mountains. We will visit Kyanjin Monastery and local houses in the evening.
  • Day 6: Hike to Kyanjin ri optional to climb Tsherko Ri, 5 hours
    Early in the morning we hike to Kyanjin Ri which takes 3 hours from there we can see the excellent view of langtang Himalan range mountains namely Mt.Langtag lirung, Langtag ri, Langsisa pass, Langtang Himal, Ganjala peak, Yala peak and many other boarder peaks. If you make wish to climb the Tsherko Ri (5150m) to see even better view, we will take you there but this is optional
  • Day 7:Trek descend down to Lama Hotel (2560m/8396ft), 6 hours
    First part of accent trek have been over. Now we start to go down. Today we go decently down to Lama Hotel. You will be able to see yak grazing on the field as well as local and their farming style. It is very pleasant to walk today because at last, we go down through forest till Lama Hotel
  • Day 8:Trek to Thulo Syabru (2260m/7,390 ft), 6 hours
    Today firstly we descent down to Pahiro then we start to climb accent through bamboo forest. It takes 1 hour to climb until the flat way appears. From there we can see Thulo Syabru after walking the flat way we should cross the Trisuli river then ascend to Thulo Syabru.
  • Day 9:Thulo Syabru to Gosaikunda lake (4460m/14,584 ft), 8 hours
    From Thulo Syabru we need to climb the steeply way to Cholangpati. During the trek, we can see forests of Oak, Hemlock, and Firs forest. After a while, we reach Cholangpati where we take a lunch. Then we walk to Gosaikunda (4460m.) via Lauribinayak La (3920m.). We would follow a rugged trail with dramatic views of Himal Chuli (7893m.,) Manaslu (8156m,) and Ganesh Himal (7406m.). To the north, we would see Langtang Lirung. At Gosainkunda, we would see a dozen of lakes. Among them, the major three are Saraswatikunda, Bhairav Kunda, and Gosainkunda. According to a Hindu mythology, Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed poison.
  • Day 10:Trek over Laurebina La (4610m), then to Phedi (3440m/11287ft), 7 hrs
    The trail leaves Gosaikunda lake and climbs through rocky moraine, past four small lakes to the till Laurebinayak La (4610meters), the highest point of this trek. Keep looking back at the spectacular views of Manaslu and the mountains of the Ganesh Himal, as well as the now familiar Langtang Lirung. You then descend steeply to camp near Ghopte which called Phedi.
  • Day 11: Trek from Gopte to Tharepati hill (3640m/11,903 ft), 5 hrs
    Descending from Ghopte the trail makes several up and down across moraines and rocky hills, then makes a final ascent to Tharepati observing the fine scenery along the path. Afternoon, hike to the viewpoint to explore the whole Helambu village as well as the famous boarder Himalayas including Xisapangma (Above 8000 m). Stay overnight at a guest house in Tharepati
  • Day 12: Trek descends down to Kutumsang (2450m/8333 ft), 5hrs
    Tharepati to Kutumsang the trail continues to passing through forests, to Magen Goth (3420m) and to Panghu. The trail descends through fir and rhododendron forest observing the view of beautiful and glittering peaks on its way to Khutumsang (2450m) a small village.
  • Day 13: Trek from Kutumsang to Chisopani (2134m/6,978 ft), 7 hrs
    Kutumsang a small settlement from where the trail goes up and down to Gul Bhanjyang. then continues along the forested ridge climbing to Thodang Betini (2260m) and to Chipling (2170m). Making a very steep descent the trail heads to Pati Bhanjyang (1860m), a Brahman and Chhetri village. Then the trail climb to Chisapani where you can be seen the mountain views and the sunrise over the Himalaya.
  • Day 14: Trek to Sundarijal (1300m) and drive to Kathmandu city center, 5 hrs.
    Chisopani hill station, the route goes forward through the forest of oak and rhododendron and brings you to Borlang Bhanjyang (2440m). After a while, you will get to the Army check post where your Shivapuri entrance permit is checked, then to Mulkharka (1800m) from where you will have a spectacular view of Kathmandu valley. Descending through the forest you will reach to Sundarijal where there is a large water project. Then drive back to the city center of Kathmandu. Transfer to your hotel
  • Day 15:Final departure day
    Drop you in Kathmandu International Airport onward your final destination and our trip ends. Wish you your wonderful journey!!!
