Mardi Himal Trek 7 days is a glorious trek which is situated at the east of popular Annapurna base camp trek. This is less touristic but more beautiful and pleasant trekking trail which is naturally rich in flora and fauna. It’s Base Camp outstandingly positioned at the base of Mardi Himal and the Annapurna region´s most beautiful mountain Machapuchhre literally meaning “Fishtail”.

This trekking trail is a newly open so the trail is small that goes through the through enchanted rhododendron forests most of the time. After we reach badaldanda the trail goes above the ridge to High Camp (3580 Meter). During the trekking from badaldanda to Highcamp you can see Annapurna South 7219meter, Hinchuli 6441 meter, Fishtail 6997meter, Mardi Himal 5587meter, 7,555 meter, Gangapurna 7,455 meter. From Mardi base camp you can see the close view of Entire Annapurna range mountain and as well as down valley.

Mardi himal Trek 7 days awesome for a natural experience. It has a very diversified environment from trekking starting point Phedi and ending point lure. Dhampus is lowland where you can observe the rice field, maize crops field, wheat crops, mustard field, millet and seasonal fruit like mango, litchi, guava, papaya, orange, lemon, banana and much more fruit. While in the middle of the trek you can see different temperate and sub-alpine plant like oak, Rhododendron and many other herbs and shrubs. Mid-September, October, and November are Autumn Season: This is the best time to do trekking because in this time the field is full with crops, the forest is very green and there is no chance of rain.

March, May is the second-best season of the year to do trekking: During this time the forest becomes very colorful because of rhododendron and magnolia flowers as well as very less chance of rain.

December, January, and February: the sky is clear but the weather is cold and there is a risk of hailstorm and snowfall.
May, June: This is Nepal´s hot and pre-monsoon season and it can get very warm indeed. This is still the best time to do this trek.

June, July, August, and mid-September: this is Monsoon season and the least popular time to do trekking in Nepal. The risk of leeches, landslides, floods and so on.

Mardi himal is moderate grade trekking trail in Nepal which goes in the lower elevation below that 4500 meter. the trek is very suitable for any age group. Depends on the physical stamina some people can do it fast while other takes some more days to do this.
it does not require any difficult climb or vertical climb. There is the trails which is not that steep. Yes some part are quite dangerous if there is snow or ice frozen. In this case you need to use the crampons or better hiking shoes that has a good grips. Other parts are ok.
if you can walk around 5-6 hours in a day then easily you can do this trek. Yet, the hardest part is reaching the Base Camp from the high camp. The paths are steep and rocky making this part of the journey a rough one. The trails along the route of this trek are not paved and are rocky.

This is moderate trek so it does not require super fitness body but if you can walk around 6-7 hours in a day would be fine. This trek does not need any technical climbing. The trail is easier and less icy. In this trek, you have to go until 4500 Meter from sea level by hiking in the morning from High Camp 3580 meter.

Mardi Himal Trek People and Culture

There are mixes of ethnic groups inhabitants like Brahmins, Newars, Chettri, Magar, Pun, Gurung and others in this route. People here in this region takes both religion Hinduism and Buddhism even though they are Buddhist mostly. They celebrate the festival like Dashain, Tihar, Lhosar, Buddha Jayanti and so on. Most of the people in this routes do traditional farming occupation but few young generations are in the military in a different country’s like England, India, and Singapore.

Like most of the Annapurna region treks, Mardi Himal trek starts from Phedi and ends at the Lumre. Phedi is 15KM driving from Pokhara. Pokhara is the entrance to Annapurna region a paradise city of Nepal where people can do relax after and before trekking. Pokhara is 200km and takes 7-8 hours driving from Kathmandu by the tourist bus which cost is about 10$ per person. There are local bus and microbus as well which leaves morning to 3 pm every one hour from Kathmandu. There are also regular flights to Pokhara by all domestic airlines, which cost USD 122.00 per person

Food, drink, and accommodation in Mardi Himal Trek?

You can get any types of western food in this trail. Every hotel has its own menu which is prepared by their village tourism management committee so there is no variation in food and it’s price. You can get chocolate, dry foods, and snacks in trekking. You can buy mineral water on this trail but I would recommend you to bring your water purification tablet and if possible small hand filter as well. For the accommodation in this trail, you can get a basic accommodation in this route. you have to share bathroom and toilet.

Threat and Risk in Mardi Himal Trek

It is better not to do solo trek specially for female. The trail goes via forest you can’t see the village until 4/5 hours. These are not village they have made the hotel after the route is opened. If you go with at least with another person it is safe and you can not miss from the way because there is not good marking on trail.

Mardi Himal Trek Itinerary 7 days is made for 5 to 7 days from Pokhara to Pokhara and 2 days Drive from Kathmandu and back to Kathmandu. I can make it longer and shorter with your time by linking with another trek of Annapurna such as Poon Hill trek, Annapurna base camp trek and so on. Detail itinerary of Mardi Himal Trek

  • Day 01:Arrival at Kathmandu 1350m/4428ft.

    On arrival at Tribhuvan International airport, you’ll be received by me or my colleagues, transfer to hotel then talk about trekking and preparation for the trekking, such as a buying and renting the stuff for trekking

  • Day 02:Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara 8 hours

    After having breakfast we will take taxi or by walk to go to Kantipath where we would take the bus to Pokhara which takes 7/8 Hours from Kathmandu. During the drive you will also see the landscape and Trisuli River Rafting as well.

  • Day 03:Drive to Phedi and trek to Deurali (2100m, about 5 hours trek)

    Early in the morning drive to Phedi which takes about an hour by private vehicle. Leaving the vehicle we need to climb the hill to get the Dhampus top which takes about 1:30 hours. having lunch at Dhampus we continue to trek to Pothna through the forest which takes about 2 hours and from their Deurali is about an hour.

  • Day 04:Trek to Forest Camp at Kokar (2,600m)- 4 hours walking.

    Deurali, where you will turn off the main Annapurna Sanctuary Trek and continue along a quiet trail through a dense forest of oak, maple, hemlock, and rhododendrons. The trail is so zigzag and full of up and down. There are big trees of Pine, Oak, Rhododendron, and Magnolia.

  • Day 05:Trek to Low Camp (3,150m)- 5 hours trekking.

    From Forest Camp to Low Camp, the trail continues through the forest; however we need to climb ascend, the vegetation starts to change with more rhododendrons and trees covered with moss, lichen and tree ferns. At Low Camp, there are 3 basic lodges- one with a dining room with open fire. The view from Low Camp is superb, with Mount Machhapuchhre visible up the valley.

  • Day 06:Trek to High Camp (3,700m)- 4 hours trekking.

    An hour climbing above Low Camp, the trail breaks out above the tree line and towards the west- there is a good view of the Annapurna South and the Hiunchuli. The trail continues along the Mardi Himal ridge mainly on a grass with some isolated rhododendron bushes along the way. We can see the superb view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) from the trail.

  • Day 07:Hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m)- 6 hours Trekking.

    Today we wake up early around 4:0 clock in the morning for a sunrise view of the Annapurna Himalayan ranges, then after an early breakfast if possible, walk up the ridge towards Mardi Himal. There is a well-established trail through the grass with a couple of steeper sections, we will avoid the most difficult part through long way which takes 30 minutes more so overall, it’s not too challenging. After 4 hours trekking, you can reach the Upper Viewpoint at 4,200m; this is where one can look into the Annapurna Sanctuary and the panoramic view is spectacular looking at the south face of Annapurna and all of the peaks in the Sanctuary as well as Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). On the time of return, we can see the dzos (yak/ cow crossbreds) grazing up here as well as Danphe pheasant. In the summer, the sheep and goats from lower villages are brought up to graze in this area so you will pass a number of herder’s huts along the way

  • Day 08:Trek to Siding village (1,750m)-6 hours walking.

    From today we start to decent down, we can take a different route but we highly recommend you to trek through low camp and go descends down from there through thick forest which is mostly covered with musk and fungus. It takes about 6 hours to get Siding village. We can relax here looking around the village in the evening.

  • Day 09:Trek to Lumre and drive to Pokhara- 2 hours walking and 2 hours driving and sightseeing at Pokhara.

    From Siding, you will walk through the road head at Lumre, which is very least busy. The road is mostly wet so there is less chance of dust. On the way from Siding, you will pass the villages of Kalimati and Ghalel. Kalimati is mainly a Brahmin village with Ghalel and Siding both being a mix of Brahmin and Gurung. At Lumre, you will meet Vehicle which will take you to Pokhara. You will be taken by me to sightseeing to Davis fall Tibetan refugee camp and Gupteshowor Gupha.

  • Day 10:Drive back to Kathmandu.

  • Day 11:Sightseeing in Kathmandu

    Sightseeing in Kathmandu means you would have an opportunity to explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites and learn about history and cultures of Nepal. (If you are not interested or have not sufficient time we would not do sightseeing)
